Small Animal Vaccine Recomendations

Canine

We recommend all dogs be tested for Heartworm disease annually, and kept on a monthly Heartworm prevention.

  • DHPPC – Distemper, hepatitis, parainfluenza, corona virus
    • DHPPC should be administered beginning at 6-8 weeks of age
    • DHPPC should be boostered every 3-4 weeks until 16 weeks of age.
    • Annual Booster
  • Rabies Virus
    • State law requires all canines to be vaccinated for rabies.
    • The first rabies vaccine should be given at 16 weeks of age and is valid for 1 year. The rabies vaccine should be boostered at 1 year of age. After the first year booster, the rabies vaccine should be boostered every 3 years.
    • Rabies vaccines that expire return to the one year protocol; with subsequent boosters at 3 year intervals.
  • Kennel Cough (Bordetella)
    •  Annual vaccine
    • Not considered a core vaccine, but is a good idea for dogs being exposed to kennel or grooming situations.
  • Lyme (Borrelia Burgdorferi)
    • 1st vaccine should be boosted 3-4 weeks apart
    • Annual Booster

Feline

We recommend all cats be tested for Feline Leukemia (FelV) and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) prior to vaccination, or exposure to other household cats.

  • FRCCP/FelV-Feline rhinotracheitis, calici virus, panleukopenia, chlamydia psittaci, and feline leukemia
    • FRCCP/FelV should be first administered at 6-8 weeks of age, and boostered every 3-4 weeks until 16 weeks of age.
  • Rabies Virus
    • First vaccine administered at 16 weeks of age and booster annually.
